I tore the labrum in my right shoulder. After laying off overhead activity, getting a steroid shot, and completing Physical Therapy, I was still very limited in the gym just the same and had daily pain. I felt surgery was my only option in the long run to get back to doing everything I love. That was the path I was being lead down and believing, although I still wasn’t 100% sold. Then I heard about and reached out to CJ, thinking it was worth a shot, and I am so grateful I did! I already felt hopeful after our very first meeting due to his optimism and confidence that I COULD get back to doing everything I wanted WITHOUT surgery. One month in working with CJ and complete 180 - I cancelled my surgery. I am already improving and have less pain on a daily basis! It had been 3 months of no overhead activity or pull-ups, and one month in I'm doing banded pull ups and overhead pressing with little to no pain! CJ’s non-traditional model and mindset has helped me have a different perspective altogether. Now I feel silly for even considering surgery. I wish I would’ve connected with CJ sooner, but I am super stoked about the progress already and excited about what’s to come!read more

I can't say enough about how awesome The Movement Doctor (CJ) is at helping to get you moving again. He has helped my husband and I with shoulder related issues and got us pointed in the right direction toward recovery, but the real test to his knowledge and expertise came at the beginning of this year when I was suffering from sciatic pain that was complicated with knee problems. He worked with me and set me up with exercises to help me strengthen my back and my knees. He also was great at encouraging me to not stop moving. I listened to everything he said and set my goal to keep exercising and make small steps towards regaining my strength and endurance. He also reminded me that I was 65 years old and that I have to set my own pace. I have to know my limits and not be so hard on myself if I couldn't keep up with my 30 and 40 year old work out companions. So, I'm happy to say his work ethics and personal exercise training techniques worked great for me. In July I was back at a regular workout schedule of three days a week. I was able to PR on my front squat at 105#. Today I am working out five days a week and I just PRed my front squat at 135# This may not seem like much to you, but I can't tell you how happy I am to be able to do a front squat without pain. So if you have pain from a sports related injury, don't give up, go see Dr. CJ! I really think he can get you on the road to recovery. Thanks Karen Kellyread more

I came to CJ with acute lower back pain. He did not waste any time in running me through a movement test to diagnose the issue. After explaining to me what was going on, he gave me a simple and thoughtfully designed plan to return to full health. As a former collegiate athlete, I can confidently say that his understanding of pain and injuries far surpasses any doctor/physical therapist that I have worked with in the past.read more

I’m very thankful that someone recommended I see Dr CJ. I was having really bad hip/knee pain. As soon as I discussed my problem, I could immediately tell he knew what was wrong. He was very professional and extremely patient with my wild one year old son. I would highly recommend Dr CJ and know that if I have another issue I will be sure to see him again. Thanks again Dr CJ!!read more

I've had issues with lower body mobility for a long as I can remember. It always hurt when I was doing squats and lunges, my only solution was to just see a chiropractor. After going to Mako for a while and seeing The Movement Dr. posts, I thought "Well hell, why not try it". I am so glad I did! After 3 sessions, I can totally see the difference in how I feel after WODs and powerlifting days. CJ does such a great job explaining how the pain you feel is the result of your movement (or lack thereof). He educates you and gives you the tools to better yourself, so if you put in the work, the reward will follow. I highly suggest The Movement Dr to help you (here we go people)...get moving.read more

I have been doing Crossfit for about 5 years now. I'm no regionals athlete but I do the Open WODs and squat roughly 320, deadlift 400, clean 265, snatch 185. About a year ago I had a pretty bad hamstring/adductor strain that put me out of commission for about a month. Eventually it became a chronic and nagging injury that never quite healed right. I visited several Air Force Physical Therapists (paid for by Tricare) who basically all gave me the same routines that I could have easily looked up online. Your standard PT is really about getting you back to "functional" for daily life. Don't confuse "functional" for daily life with functional fitness. CJ is there to help athletes bridge the gap between initial recovery from injury and getting you back to your full athletic potential. He has the professional credentials that come from study and academics and also has athletic experience that you can only get by working with high level athletes on a daily basis. I would highly recommend CJ if you are looking for a cost effective solution to a physical limitation or injury.read more

For 3 months I was having back aches, pains and SI joint issues and was seeing a chiropractor without any long lasting progress. This has happened 3 or 4 times since 2010... but it has never ever been this bad. I thought my BoxLife and ability to do anything fitness related was over! I refused to accept a sedentary lifestyle and after some research I came across The Movement Dr and after 2 weeks with Dr. CJ Depalma, I am able to intensely workout again... PAIN FREE!! I am going to continue sessions with him so I can progress to doing CrossFit again. I strongly recommend his services, you will not regret it! He is so positive and genuine and caring and supportive and he has YOUR goals and best interest at heart. He is very passionate about his patients and the work that he does. I am forever grateful for him, I have never felt better or stronger!read more

I was lucky enough to meet CJ when he was living in Orlando. I decided to do a squat cycle, on my own accord, at way too heavy of a weight and pulled a "butt muscle". I made a trip to the chiropractor, it helped, but did not teach me the movements I needed to do to fix the injury, as well as fix my actual squat. After seeing CJ for an emergency sesh, I thought my exercise career was over I was in so much pain, he made me feel better and taught me the movements I need to work on to improve my squat and get past the quick fix. For the past few months I have done what he taught me at the gym daily, added in extra mobility, and actually pay attention and keep proper form through my squats. I am proud to say I watched my videos today and I look like a new person squatting. Tomorrow I finish that same squat cycle (lower, smarter percentages) with no injuries or soreness! Sure, I could have probably squatted my way through this cycle, but what CJ taught me got me through it feeling healthy by just a few easy tips and tricks. Listen to this dude, see him regularly, and do what he says. Mako and Pensacola are so lucky to have someone who understands movement and can actually benefit the individual and their needs!read more
